Trackers and zones in buildings
IFAPP can record working time and breaks inside a building – for example a warehouse or a factory – without a time clock or cards. Workers carry a Bluetooth badge, and trackers on every floor detect it.
How it works
- Every floor has at least three trackers with SIM, mounted on the walls.
- The trackers detect the badges around them and send the signal strength to IFAPP.
- IFAPP compares the signal to several trackers and works out which zone and floor the worker is in.
- Time in each zone goes into the worker's timesheet automatically.
The position is zone-level, not to the metre. The more trackers, the smaller the zones you can split the building into.
Plan the zones
Split the building into zones on every floor and give each zone a type:
- Work zone – for example production, workshop, warehouse, packing, office. Time counts as working time.
- Break zone – for example the canteen and the smoking area. Time shows as a break on the worker's timeline. Each break zone needs an extra tracker in the zone.
- In and out – the first and last detection in the building give the arrival and end time.
Small rooms close to each other can be hard to tell apart. Make one zone for two small rooms, or add an extra tracker.
Installation
- Install at least three trackers on every floor, spread across the floor – for example one at each end and one in the middle.
- Mount them 2–3 m high, away from metal shelving and large machines, with a permanent power supply.
- Add an extra tracker in each break zone you want to record. An outdoor smoking area gets a tracker on the spot, protected from the weather.
- Check in GPS-Trackers that every tracker is online.

Badges for workers
Every worker gets a Bluetooth badge in the card holder or on the lanyard. The badge is linked to the worker in IFAPP. See Tags on tools and workers.
Workers don't scan anything or need an app. If a worker forgets the badge, no time is recorded, and the manager can add the time by hand. The correction is stored with name and time.
Working time and breaks
- Time in work zones counts as working time.
- Time in break zones shows as a break on the worker's timeline.
- You decide whether breaks are paid or deducted – according to your collective agreement and your own rules.
- Timesheets can be exported to Excel. See Time registration and timesheets.
Floors and zones in IFAPP
The view of floors and zones is set up by IFAPP at onboarding and adapted to your building. Contact support when you want to add a floor or change the zones.
Before you start
Recording zones and breaks is a control measure. Workers must be informed in writing in advance about what is recorded, why and for how long data is kept. See GDPR and employees.
